When should hair be shaved after hair transplant?
It is necessary to wait for the transplanted hair to hold onto to the scalp before shaving for the first time. An incorrect early haircut may cause the transplanted hair to fall off, because the hair roots are still not secure in the first 2 weeks. It is considerably easy for the hair follicles to fall off with little trauma.
Hair transplantation experts recommend shaving your hair 1-1.5 months after the operation. Hair shaving, even with a scissor, before 1 month’s period may cause you to lose some of your hair follicles. However, after 1 month, the transplanted hair will be more secure. Therefore, there will be no risk of hair loss.
Shaving the donor area after hair transplant
We stated in the previous heading that you should wait 1 or 1.5 months for the first shave after hair transplantation. However, this does not apply to the donor area. After hair transplantation, the donor area could be shaved at any time. Since shaving the donor area will not affect the recipient area, there are no restrictions.
It will be best for you to wait before shaving the donor area as the hair growing in the donor area could protect the inflamed areas from sunlight. If you shave the donor area too early, the wounds in this area will be exposed to sunlight and inflammation may occur.
While shaving the donor area, not shortening the hair too much will prevent any inflammation and improve the appearance of the donor area.
Shaving machine after hair transplantation
After one or one and a half months, you can shave your hair with a shaving machine or scissors. However, shaving with a hair machine after hair transplantation is not recommended in the beginning, even if it only poses a small risk.
It is recommended to cut the hair from the ends with scissors for the first time after hair transplantation. 2-3 months after the operation, you can shave with a shaving machine whenever you want.
Shaving hair with a razor after hair transplantation
Shaving with a razor or a shaving machine does not create a drastic difference in the hair length. When you shave the hair to number 0 with the shaving machine, your hair will be completely buzzed.
After hair transplantation, the time you need to wait for the hair to be shaved with a razor is longer, because the razor will be in direct contact with the scalp. If a hair follicle is budged by the razor, it may become loose and fall off.
Taking this risk into account and using razor at least 3-4 months after the operation will be much more appropriate.
